Installer technical FAQ

Will headlight protection film stop rocks from breaking my headlights?

Installer support covering lens-film protection, limitations, preparation, maintenance and customer education.

Many drivers believe detailing their vehicle with MOD5 TopShield headlight protection film guarantees total immunity against cracks from high-speed rock impacts. This is physically impossible, as sufficient force will always damage the underlying surface. While the film is engineered to absorb and disperse the energy from standard road debris like gravel and loose stones, it cannot defy physics when faced with large objects or extreme velocity impacts. In everyday driving, the film acts as a sacrificial barrier, taking the damage that would otherwise chip or pit the factory lens. Recognizing this limitation helps owners view the film as a risk reduction measure rather than an unbreakable shield.
