Where is the worst place for a rock to hit a windscreen?

A pervasive myth is that **an impact in the centre of the glass is more dangerous than one at the edge**. This belief creates a false sense of security regarding chips located near the frame. The perimeter of a windscreen is actually the most vulnerable zone because it is where the glass is bonded to the vehicle's frame, creating a band of high structural tension. When debris hits this "stress zone," the glass cannot flex to absorb the energy as effectively as it does in the centre. Consequently, even a minor impact near the edge is far more likely to trigger a long, running crack than a similar hit in the middle.
