Installer technical FAQ
Can windscreen protection film prevent a cracked windscreen from a large rock chip?
Installer education covering PPF construction, limitations, care, failure modes and customer expectation setting.
Many people assume that MOD5 TopShield windscreen protection film can entirely prevent a cracked windscreen from any impact, even a large rock chip. This expectation is incorrect. While MOD5 TopShield is engineered to absorb and dissipate the energy from smaller road debris, significantly reducing the likelihood of chips and scratches, it is not designed to stop the force of a large, high-velocity impact that would typically crack an unprotected windscreen. The film provides an additional sacrificial layer, but it does not make the glass impervious to breaking under extreme stress. Understanding this distinction helps in evaluating its protective capabilities.
