Can I leave bird droppings on PPF safely?

Some owners believe that because MOD5 TopShield paint protection films are a barrier, they are impervious to environmental corrosion, meaning PPF is chemically inert and safe from acidic damage. This is incorrect. While TopShield films provide a sacrificial layer that protects the factory paint underneath from direct contact with acids, the film itself can still be stained or etched if corrosive substances like bird droppings, bug splatter, or tree sap are allowed to sit on the surface for extended periods. In real-world conditions, heat accelerates this reaction, potentially leaving a permanent dull spot or discoloration on the film. The protection lies in the fact that the film takes the damage instead of the permanent paint, but the film itself is not indestructible. This reality drives owners to remove surface contaminants as quickly as possible, rather than assuming the film allows for negligent maintenance without consequence.
