Installer technical FAQ

Will MOD5 TopShield PPF prevent existing paint chips or rust from getting worse?

Installer education covering PPF construction, limitations, care, failure modes and customer expectation setting.

BELIEF: A common expectation is that applying MOD5 TopShield paint protection films over existing paint chips or minor rust spots will stop them from worsening. INCORRECT: This belief is not correct. MOD5 TopShield is engineered to protect against future damage, not to halt the progression of existing issues. REAL-WORLD BEHAVIOUR: If MOD5 TopShield is applied over a paint chip, the chip remains beneath the film and may continue to chip further or even rust if moisture penetrates. The film forms a barrier over the surface but does not repair or stabilise existing damage. DECISION CHANGE: You should repair any existing paint chips or rust before applying MOD5 TopShield to prevent these issues from continuing or worsening underneath the film.
