Installer technical FAQ

Can windscreen protection film stop all rock chips and cracks?

Technical explanations for installers assessing KPU windscreen film, application limits, care and customer expectations.

Many car owners assume that applying MOD5 TopShield windscreen protection film will entirely prevent all rock chips and cracks. This belief is not accurate. While TopShield films are engineered to absorb the impact energy from stones and road debris, significantly reducing the likelihood of damage, they cannot make the glass impervious to all forms of impact. The capability of the film to prevent damage depends on factors such as the size, shape, speed, and angle of the impacting object. Therefore, a very large or sharply angled impact can still cause the windscreen to chip or crack, even with the film applied. Understanding this limitation helps define realistic expectations for its protective capabilities.
