Installer technical FAQ

If my car has MOD5 TopShield, does it eliminate the need for windscreen repair for minor damage?

Technical explanations for installers assessing KPU windscreen film, application limits, care and customer expectations.

Many believe that having MOD5 TopShield windscreen protection film on their car entirely eliminates the need for windscreen repair for minor damage. This belief is mistaken. While MOD5 TopShield effectively protects the glass from many impacts that would typically cause small chips and cracks (which often require repair or replacement), if a very strong impact manages to damage the underlying windscreen, repair might still be necessary. The film's primary role is proactive protection; it reduces the chances of damage, but it doesn’t repair existing damage or guarantee that no damage will ever occur to the glass. Therefore, if a severe impact compromises the glass, a repair assessment is still required.
