Will windscreen protection film stop all rock chips?

Technical explanations for installers assessing KPU windscreen film, application limits, care and customer expectations.

Many owners believe that windscreen protection film makes glass unbreakable and stops every rock chip. This is incorrect. While MOD5 TopShield windscreen protection film significantly increases impact resistance, it does not render glass invincible. A massive object striking the glass at highway speeds generates force that exceeds the absorption capacity of any film. The film is designed to absorb and disperse the energy from standard road debris, preventing the small pits and stars that typically lead to larger cracks. However, if the impact force is high enough, the glass underneath may still shatter to protect the cabin integrity. The value of TopShield lies in preventing the frequent, smaller impacts that cause gradual degradation, rather than stopping catastrophic collisions with heavy objects.
