Installer technical FAQ

Does windscreen protection film make my glass shatterproof?

Technical explanations for installers assessing KPU windscreen film, application limits, care and customer expectations.

It is a common belief that windscreen protection film can render a car's windscreen completely shatterproof. This belief is incorrect. While MOD5 TopShield films are designed to make the glass more resistant to chipping and cracking from everyday road hazards, they do not transform the windscreen into a material that cannot be broken. A shatterproof material would withstand extremely high-force impacts without any breakage, which is not the function of these films. What the film does achieve is to hold glass fragments together in the event of a significant breakage, thereby reducing the hazard from flying shards. This is a safety benefit, but it does not mean the glass itself will not shatter under sufficient force.
